Now that we've finished our movie I'll do an analysis about the film techniques.
The film starts with an establishing shot that pans over a city at night, it's also very important to acknowledge that the movie is in black and white. (This is a very important convention of film noir)
The next shot that lasts about a second is a close up of someone tying their shoes. This shot is used to show to the audience that this scene and the next one are happening at the same time.
Then we see a high angle tracking shot that follows the car driving through the street in what seems to be a good neighborhood of the city. At the same time that this shot starts, the main character's voice over and the opening credits start too.
After this we see a close up of the headlights of the detective's car and then there is a static mid shot of the detective turning off and getting out of his car. After he gets out of the car there is another mid shot of him closing the door of the car.
Then we can see a tracking shot that starts as a close up of the detective's pocket that has his pack of cigarettes. This shot then turns into a close up of the detective's face while he is lighting up his cigarette and finally into a mid shot as he commands his partner to go secure the perimeter of the crime scene.
Then we can see a long tracking shot that follows the detective as he smokes his cigarette walking through the street.
After this there are several close ups. One of the detective's face as he sees the dead body, another one of the dead body, one of a note that the body has sticked on its chest and finally another one of the detective's face as he reacts to this.
Then there is a tracking mid shot of the detective putting on gloves to pick the note. Following this shot there is an extreme close up of the note that lets the viewer see what it says.
Following this scene, the camera blurs and transitions to the man jogging we saw earlier. As this happens, the narration stops and the person stops jogging too. We see the man in a high angle shot that hides his face to the viewer. We then hear an alarm ticking in his smartwatch and as soon as this happens, camera cuts to a static mid shot of the detective as he is reading the killer's note. After a second, the detective turns around realizing that the killer has been watching him all along. As this happens, we can see an over the shoulder close up of the detective watching the security camera installed by the killer; also the music changes to a much more dramatic song.
Then we can see close up of the security camera. After this shot we can see another close up of the man's phone that shows the security camera's live feed, this unveils the audience that this jogging man is actually the killer. After this the camera blurs and starts tracking the killer as he starts jogging away from the camera.
